Bio

Terrence R. Blackman, a mathematician and professor, was born on December 28, 1968, in Georgetown, Guyana. He earned his B.Sc. in mathematics from Brooklyn College in 1991 and his Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2011. Blackman began teaching at CUNY’s Medgar Evers College in 1996, eventually becoming an associate professor and chair of the mathematics department in 2015. He also served as dean of the school of science, health, and technology from 2016-2019. Blackman held distinguished positions, including Dr. Martin Luther King Visiting Professor at MIT, a visitor at the Institute for Advanced Study, and a NEAGEP Summer Faculty Fellow at Boston University. In 2023, he was named chair of the Executive Council of the National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences. He is a member of the Board of the National Association of Mathematicians.
