Bio
Dr. Gelonia Dent is a distinguished academic and researcher with a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. Currently an Associate Professor at Medgar Evers College, CUNY, she has held roles at prestigious institutions like IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center and the American Museum of Natural History. Her research focuses on fluid dynamics, protein structure prediction, and mathematical modeling, including cannabinoid exposure and COVID-19. Dr. Dent has published extensively and presented at major conferences. She has received numerous accolades, including being a finalist for the American Mathematical Society Congressional Fellowship, a patent award, and earning an NSF award. She is deeply committed to STEM education, diversity, and mentoring underrepresented students in mathematics. Dr. Dent has contributed significantly to the academic community, coordinating events like the Conference for African American Researchers in the Mathematical Sciences, and serving on NIH review panels. Her dedication to advancing mathematical research and supporting underrepresented communities is central to her career.
