About the Episode
Dr. Brenda M. Greene interviews Maurice Carlos Ruffin, author of a book of short stories, The Ones Who Don’t Say They Love You (One World/Random House, 2021). Ruffin explores the complexity of Black life in New Orleans and presents the stories of those whose voices are invisible, silenced, and marginalized. His stories focus on themes such as social and environmental justice, homelessness, domestic abuse, drugs, the LBGTQ community, and the Black Lives Matter Movement. Greene and Ruffin discuss his writing process, the themes in his stories, and the role of Black literature.
