Sukkot (beginning days)

Festival of Booths. Commemorates the wandering in the desert of the Israelites as well as the fall harvest. While the festival of Sukkot lasts for 8 days, the first day is considered a day of rest.

Religious/Ethnic Group: Jewish

Tradition/Practices:Observers build temporary dwellings outside (known as asukkah) and are commanded to spend the festival eating \their meals and sleeping outdoors in the sukkah.  The intention is to connect the abundance of the harvest to the themes of gratitude and hospitality.
