Join us on Sunday for four episodes of MEC’s diverse radio programming. Tune into WNYE on 91.5 FM and groove to freestyle and jazz, explore the Caribbean Research Center, and hear from Black artists and writers.

The Freestyle Frenzy

WMEC Radio presents The Freestyle Frenzy with host DJ Kenny Spears. Every Sunday evening, enjoy a half-hour of your favorite classic hits and the latest vibes of R&B, reggae, hip-hip, and more.

Caribbean Focus
6:30–7:00pm
Hermina Marcellin of MEC’s Caribbean Research Center at Medgar Evers College talks with Felina Backer about being an element of positive change and finding your life’s purpose. Felina Backer is the founder of MIPO, Inc. and is the driving force behind the success of the organization. Backer has been engaged in community wellness for more than three decades, and she is considered an influential figure in shifting the paradigm of community service. Backer is a veteran educator with more than 22 years with the New York City Department of Education.

Writers on Writing
7:00–7:30pm
Executive Director of the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College Dr. Brenda M. Greene interviews interviews writer, producer, filmmaker, and visionary Carl Clay, founder and CEO of Black Spectrum Theatre. Greene and Clay discuss the origins of his professional life as a playwright, screenwriter, and lyricist, the subject matter of plays produced during the Black Arts era, and his views on the responsibility of the Black artist. Clay has spent much of his professional life producing Black Spectrum Theatre, a theater group company that works with youth and adults as it examines issues of social significance to the Black community. When asked about the future, Clay emphasized that he is committed to providing theater to the community and to ensuring that it continues in this new technological environment. Select episodes of “Writers on Writing” can now be heard on the new CBL YouTube channel. Explore the digital archives on YouTube, here.
