Discovering the Lost Town of Timbuktoo, New York

Aaron Mair provides an expert overview of the history of Timbuktoo, a Black suffrage settlement of over 3000 Black families near Lake Placid New York prior to the Civil War. It is a story that has been lost to history until now.

Aaron Mair was the first Black president of the Sierra Club and a senior executive with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for two decades. He is internationally in the realm of environmental conservation and preservation and is the executive director of the Adirondack Conservancy.

This event is in collaboration with the Department of Public Administration.
