Medgar Evers College Hosts Arts Alive Extravaganza

One-time semester event that showcases arts talents of students

BROOKLYN, New York – The Department of Mass Communications, Creative and Performing Arts at the Medgar Evers College, City University of New York is hosting its annual Arts Alive event in Brooklyn on Thursday, December 6, 2018.

Arts Alive celebrates the growing urban arts scene in Brooklyn and captures the artistic expression of predominantly African, African-American, Caribbean arts and culture.

Through dance, theatre, and visual arts, participating students demonstrate how engagement in the arts enriches lives and builds stronger, more vibrant communities.

Arts Alive challenges visual and performing arts students to put forth their best and most original thinking in expanding audience participation and engagement as well as community development.

According to the Chair, Department of Mass Communications, Creative and Performing Arts, Dr. Clinton Crawford, Arts Alive extravaganza exemplifies the artistic nature of Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn and fills the void of African-American and African diasporic arts performance in Brooklyn. It establishes a new tradition that is tied to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the college that seeks to situate students at Medgar Evers College within the new and developing field of Media and the Performing Arts both from an emerging artistic and industry viewpoint.

Dr. Crawford announced that the event would be free and open to the general public and enjoined prominent professional artists in many different fields including the visual arts, dance, drama, and classical jazz music to participate in the event hoping they mightdiscover budding talents to groom from the pool of talented students. The event starts at 7 p.m. to suit the schedule of most workers.

He expressed the hope that members of the Brooklyn community, community leaders, groups, and corporate organizations would identify with the event that promises to be an evening of fun and relaxation for participants.

The event is expected to be attended by the faculty, staff, and students of Medgar Evers College, political leaders, civil servants, women, and civil society activists and groups in New York.
