Carroll and Milton Petrie Emergency Fund

The Carroll and Milton Petrie Fund is a grant designed to provide ONE-TIME (short-term and non-recurring) financial assistance to students who are faced with a financial emergency. First-semester students are not eligible for Petrie Long (rent, utility bill, textbook, etc.) assistance, and Carroll and Milton Petrie Fund assistance can only be provided to students with a GPA of at least 2.0. In addition, part-time students will be eligible for Carroll and Milton Petrie Fund assistance on a case-by-case basis.

Students are strongly encouraged to read all documents completely. Handwritten applications will not be accepted; only those that are typed.

All applicants must demonstrate that they have exhausted all other options. Incomplete applications will not be accepted, reviewed, and/or processed. Enrolled students cannot apply on behalf of another enrolled student.

Please note that the grant cannot be used to pay tuition, resolve previous debts to the college, obtain legal representation, or seek legal representation in a criminal matter.

Important Information:

  • Carroll and Milton Petrie Fund assistance is capped at $2,500
  • All applicants should receive a confirmation (of receipt) email after submitting their application. If you do not receive confirmation of your submission, please email: Petrie@mec.cuny.edu
  • Students will receive a response regarding their eligibility to receive the grant within 7-10 business days (please keep this timeline in mind when completing your application).
  • This semester, (approved) funds will be direct deposited into students’ bank accounts or mailed via a paper check. Direct deposit will only be available to students who have already set up this process with the college.
