Medgar Evers College to host workshop for Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center

Medgar Evers College will host the Prospect Park Alliance, in partnership with NAACP Brooklyn, for a workshop to kick off the creation of the Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center. The workshop is set for 6-8 p.m. on January 17 in Academic Building 1 on MEC’s campus.

Through funding from the New York City Council, the Prospect Park Alliance will transform an existing maintenance building at the Parkside and Ocean entrance to Prospect Park into a space that complements the new Shirley Chisholm Monument planned for this entrance to the park. The workshop will begin with a brief performance by Ingrid Griffith from her one-woman Chisholm show, “Unbossed and Unbowed.”

The Center will orient visitors to the life and legacy of Brooklyn trailblazer Shirley Chisholm, while providing visitor amenities.

MEC President Dr. Patricia Ramsey is scheduled to be in attendance alongside Morgan Monaco (President of Prospect Park Alliance), L. Joy Williams (President of the Brooklyn NAACP) and Council Member Rita Joseph.

You are asked to RSVP for the event, which can be done here: prospectpark.org/workshop

If you cannot attend in person, the event will be available via Zoom here.
