Medgar Evers College Welcomed its First Cohort in the Inaugural Executive Leadership Program

Nearly two dozen participants, mainly from Africa and Asia, were on campus the week of July 8, 2019 for the inaugural Executive Leadership Certificate Program. The program runs through Friday, July 12, and is offered through the College’s School of Professional and Community Development (SPCD). William Blair, SPCD’s Director of Workforce Development/ACE, said the idea came from one of the College’s professors.

“Dr. Uchenna Ekwo presented the concept of developing an Executive Leadership Certificate Program at MEC to Provost Augustine Okereke.” Blair continued, “The Provost then convened a meeting with Dr. Ekwo, [SPCD] Dean Evelyn Castro, and myself and tasked us with the planning of the inaugural course.”

The MEC Executive Leadership Certificate Program is an intensive weeklong course that will provide participants with the skills necessary to succeed in executive management positions. The cohort will gain a deeper understanding of personal leadership skills, innovation and technology, public policy and ethics, negotiation, and strategic communication in the digital age.
