MEC’S Future Entrepreneurs

Three Medgar Evers College students have advanced in a City University of New York (CUNY) challenge created for future entrepreneurs. Akim Clerge, Omri Faroul and Kerwin Dasque represented MEC in CUNY’s Innovation Challenge 2018. The three students received $900 to advance the business idea they pitched.

MEC student Akim Clerge said the group worked on a product that would help bridge the gap between communities and the community boards in their area. “It’s an augmented reality app that allows community residents to re-imagine their neighborhoods in their own image and vote on changes they like or dislike,” said Clerge. Clerge said the money would be used to develop their idea.

The Innovation Challenge is part of CUNY I-Corps. CUNY I-Corps is a National Science Foundation designated site designed to transform scientific and engineering discoveries in university labs into successful commercial ventures. Over the course of the program, I-Corps trains academic researchers to become entrepreneurs. As part of the challenge, the three MEC students participated in workshops where they were exposed to experiences to help them create a product or service that benefits society.
