MEC’S First Annual Soulfest Raises Thousands for Scholarships!

The College’s first annual SoulFest is an outdoor extravaganza of food, music and arts and crafts — raised over $8,000 for student scholarships on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The event, held in the parking lot between Franklin and Bedford Avenues, attracted hundreds of people, including members of the MEC community and the surrounding neighborhoods.

People munched on Jamaican Beef Patties and Jerk chicken, and lots of other delicious meals — and swayed to the music provided by Dr. Bob Lee and the WBLS 107.5 van. They shopped for t-shirts and African-garb, bought jewelry, and watched sugar cane chopped down to bite-size. Music also blared from a vendor selling golden oldies CDs.

A good time was had for a good cause!
