MEC-SAAC Demonstrates the Meaning of Thanksgiving

In keeping with the annual tradition of making a contribution to the greater good, members of the Medgar Evers College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MEC-SAAC) lent a hand to those in need on Thanksgiving Day. Members of the committee and other student-athletes traveled to Brooklyn’s Calvary Pentecostal Church to help serve food.

“This is a yearly event that MEC-SAAC organizes and participates in,” said Elston Alexis, SAAC liaison and academic counselor. “There are so many people in close vicinity to Medgar Evers College who truly are in need.”

The experience of working together to give those less fortunate a better Thanksgiving not only helped those being served, it also proved to be a valuable experience for the MEC-SAAC volunteers.

“It was an eye-opening experience for me to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day,” added Kishon Boston, a senior on the Men’s Cross Country team. “I’ll definitely do it again. It’s important, especially for my generation, to extend a helping hand and to do right in the community.”

The MEC-SAAC provides support to help student-athletes manage the demands of participating in intercollegiate athletics and achieve the most out of their college experience. The members of the committee serve as role models and adhere to a level of conduct that demonstrates the values of citizenship and service.
