MEC Alumna Diana C. Richardson Named Deputy Brooklyn Borough President
MEC Alumna Diana C. Richardson was recently appointed deputy Brooklyn borough president under new Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.
She has represented Brooklyn’s 43rd District as a member of the New York State Assembly since 2015. The 43rd District encompasses Prospect Lefferts Gardens, along with parts of Crown Heights and Flatbush, and which includes Medgar Evers College.
As our representative in the Assembly, Richardson’s advocacy and partnership was critical to MEC over the past six years. Most recently in 2020, her legislative efforts led to the formal renaming of the nearby Franklin Avenue and President Street Stations after Medgar Evers College.
Richardson’s connection to Brooklyn and Medgar Evers College began long before her election in 2015. She was born in Brooklyn and is the daughter of immigrants from Aruba. Richardson’s interest in public service and commitment to improving the lives of those around her began when she was a student in the Department of Public Administration at Medgar Evers College.
She will now join Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso at Borough Hall as his second in command. Her focus will be on developing policy and strategy in three areas: combating gun violence, addressing food insecurity, and reforming community boards to ensure that they reflect and effectively represent the communities they serve.
