Happy 99th birthday, Mr. Evers!

Medgar Evers

Please join us in wishing Medgar Wiley Evers a happy birthday, as the social justice icon would have been 99 today.

Born on July 2, 1925 in Decatur, Mississippi, Mr. Evers has long been credited with transformative voting reform and pushing for school desegregation before his murder in 1963.

His commitment to equity and willingness to pay the ultimate price is a primary driving force to daily life at Medgar Evers College, where “social justice is in our DNA.”

Our college’s mission has eight pillars, including “the College seeks to prepare students for leadership roles in a changing world, so that they and the College can be energizers or change agents in the community.”

In this effort, we continue to reach back into history to learn from Mr. Evers in providing pathways to the change agents we need moving forward — assuring that his work continues in every one of us.

Thank you for the ongoing inspiration, Mr. Evers — we thank you for the 99 years of influence you have provided us all.
