Dr. LaToya Blount named new Dean of Students at Medgar Evers College

Please join us in welcoming Dr. LaToya Blount to the Medgar Evers College community as our new Dean of Students.
Chosen from a diverse, highly qualified group of finalists for the position, Dr. Blount comes to Medgar Evers College from SUNY Rockland, where she was the Executive Director of Student Engagement and College Life.
Dr. Blount is “a result-driven higher education leader with progressive experience in leading dynamic teams, demonstrating a consistent track record of strategic vision, transformative leadership, and organizational advancement.”
Prior to her award-winning time at SUNY Rockland, she also held positions focused on student outcomes — inside and outside of the classroom — at the College of New Rochelle, Manhattanville College, the University of Bridgeport, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Buffalo State.
“As a fellow Brooklynite, I have always known MEC to be an institution that embodies what it means to create a holistic college experience by providing learning for students inside and outside of the classroom,” said Dr. Blount.
“The experiences created at MEC resonated with me as it is my life’s mission and passion to educate, empower and enlighten students and all who cross my path.”
Dr. Jesse Kane, Medgar Evers College’s Senior Vice President for Student Success, is excited to work alongside Dr. Blount as the campus continues to focus on serving students at the individual level.
“Dr. Blount is a student-centered, experienced administrator, with an impressive track record of program management and student advocacy,” said Dr. Kane. “Dr. Blount’s innovative approach to this work will prove to be beneficial in advancing the student success mission of Medgar Evers College.”
Dr. Blount received her Bachelor Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from Buffalo State University, where she also earned her Master of Science in Human Service Administration. She got her Doctor of Education degree from St. John Fisher University.
