Dr. Ken Hoyte named Associate Provost of Medgar Evers College

Dr. Ken J. Hoyte has recently been appointed as the Associate Provost for Assessment, Accreditation & Institutional Effectiveness at Medgar Evers College, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to institutional quality assurance. Currently serving as the Interim Dean of the School of Education (2023-present), Dr. Hoyteplays a crucial role in advancing the college’s goals in assessment and accreditation.
Dr. Hoyte joined the faculty at Medgar Evers College in 2011 as an Associate Professor of Education, where he taught a diverse array of courses in Special Education, Child Development, and Early Intervention and Assessment. His dedication to accreditation is evidenced by his tenure as the college’s Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) (2024-present), a position appointed by President Ramsey, where he serves as the primary point of contact with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). In this role, he ensures compliance with accreditation standards, facilitated communication between the institution and MSCHE, and oversees the timely submission of essential reports and data.
With significant experience in the accreditation arena, Dr. Hoyte has played a vital role in two successful School of Education accreditations: the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). He also served as a working group co-chair during Medgar Evers’ last Middle States Accreditation, demonstrating his leadership in institutional effectiveness.
In addition to his interim role, Dr. Hoyte has held various leadership positions, including Chair of the Department of Developmental and Special Education (2020-2023), Deputy Chair (2018-2020), and Acting Chair for the Department of Education (2016-2017). Over the last decade, he has actively participated in numerous committees focused on advancing educational quality and institutional effectiveness.
Dr. Hoyte earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Brandeis University in 2006, with research focused on the brain pathways involved in language and communication. Before his tenure at Medgar Evers College, he pursued a distinguished research career utilizing cognitive neuroscience and brain imaging techniques to investigate communication, literacy, and mathematics in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disorders. His expertise was further honed through prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at Michigan State University and Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons.
As an accomplished researcher, Dr. Hoyte has received numerous fellowship awards from esteemed institutions, including the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, Society for Neuroscience, and Harvard Medical School’s Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator for over $1.5 million in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Education and the State of New York.
Dr. Hoyte‘s commitment to cross-disciplinary Autism research continues at Medgar Evers College as he explores innovative approaches in this vital field. Additionally, he has served as the director of the Center for Cognitive Development within the School of Education, focusing on leveraging brain-based research to develop effective interventions and programs for children with disabilities. His deep-seated commitment to improving institutional effectiveness and student outcomes positions him as a key leader in the college’s ongoing mission to enhance educational quality.
