Dean’s Message

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the School of Science and Allied Health (SSAH) at Medgar Evers College (MEC), where academic excellence, research innovation, and community engagement intersect to prepare students for impactful careers in STEM and healthcare fields. Whether your passion lies in biology, environmental science, mathematics, computer science, nursing, or social work, our school is committed to equipping you with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to thrive in today’s evolving scientific and medical landscapes.

At SSAH, we take great pride in offering rigorous academic programs that integrate classroom learning with hands-on laboratory experiences, research opportunities, and real-world applications. Our six academic departments—Biology; Chemistry & Environmental Science; Mathematics; Nursing; Physics & Computer Science; and Social Work—are committed to fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and professional development.

Housed in a state-of-the-art 195,000 sq. ft. facility, SSAH serves as a hub for cutting-edge research and high-quality education. With nearly 1,500 majors, SSAH offers flagship programs in science and allied health disciplines, including:

Additionally, SSAH students have the opportunity to present their research at conferences, participate in student clubs, and engage in community-driven projects that align with MEC’s mission of educational empowerment and social justice.

As part of our continued growth, we aim to expand student enrollment through strategic partnerships with local high schools, enhance research opportunities, and introduce new career-oriented programs in allied health fields with strong employment prospects. The SSAH is also proud to be part of the National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM Scholars Program, which aims to increase STEM participation and academic success.
