Mission and Vision

The mission of the department of psychology is provide students with a foundation in general psychology and are consistent with the Departmental mission of preparing students for graduate education in clinical and counseling, personality, social, developmental, educational, sport, community, school, biological, health, cognitive, environmental, forensic, and industrial/organizational psychology. This degree is also designed to provide pre-professional training for those students who are preparing for careers in health care, education, urban affairs, government, and industry. Coursework is complemented by activities in the field and research in our psychology laboratory.

In terms of its vision, the Department of Psychology at Medgar Evers College is a recognized leader for undergraduate education. Research and educational opportunities in the areas of personality psychology, health psychology, developmental psychology, educational, bio-psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, forensic psychology, and applied

psychology, along with increased partnerships with research institutions and community service agencies, will continue to prepare students for careers and graduate education in psychology. The Department of Psychology adheres to the ethical guidelines of professional psychology and adapts curricula and pedagogy to best reflect the communities and world we serve. The department’s mission and vision are aligned with the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines for undergraduate programs and the College and University requirements and strategic plan.
