Biography
Dr. Yvanne Joseph is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Medgar Evers College at the City University of New York. She specializes in personality theory, and psychology of the African Diaspora. Before this position, she was a Faculty Counselor, first at Queens College, and then at Medgar Evers College in the Percy E. Sutton Department of Special Programs/SEEK. She worked in SEEK for over a decade as a faculty counselor, and assisted SEEK students in realizing their dream of becoming the first in the family to graduate from college, pursue a graduate degree and enter a professional career. Dr. Joseph is also a product of CUNY, SEEK Alumni and was a Ronald McNair Scholar at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Dr. Joseph was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and moved to the United States as a child. The transition to a new country, culture, and language nurtured in her a specific interest in diversity, and the psychosocial and cultural adaptation of U.S. immigrants of African origin. These interests guide and shape her scholarly research and commitment to the diverse student population at Medgar Evers College, and within the larger City University of New York. Dr. Joseph is a graduate of the Ph.D. Program in Critical Social/Personality Psychology at the Graduate School and University Center, CUNY.
