Biography

Dr. Sumerlin is a Professor of psychology. His areas of concentration include health, aging, personality, and counseling from a positive psychology perspective. He obtained a B.A. and M.A. in psychology and counseling psychology respectively at the University of West Florida. He obtained his Ph.D. from New York University in human sexuality and psychology. His research centers on strengths in marginalized groups; e.g., unsheltered homeless individuals. Dr. Sumerlin has published psychometric instruments on self-actualization and romantic primary pair bonds and empirical studies describing life issues of unsheltered homeless men. Presently, Dr. Sumerlin’s interest’s exam aspects of cellular and molecular aging as contributors to an individual’s health span/life-span.
