OFFICE OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) provides academic leadership to the College’s academic programs. In keeping with the mission and goals of the College, it promotes outstanding teaching, research and scholarship. At Medgar Evers College, we take very seriously our motto of "Creating Success, One Student at a Time." The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to the College’s mission of developing and maintaining high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs within the context of a liberal education. Access and academic excellence are included as part of our mission as we seek to serve students who have diverse educational, socioeconomic, political, cultural and national backgrounds.
The College provides a solid foundation of general education to prepare our students to achieve personal and academic goals, through an approach that is fundamentally qualitative and transformative with a student-centered curriculum. Our curricular approach emphasizes core study areas in oral communication, composition, critical reading and thinking, computer and information literacies, foreign language knowledge, and quantitative reasoning with areas of emphasis in the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, mass communications, the natural sciences, and literacy and critical inquiry.
The College is also proud of its strong academic programs offered through its four (4) Schools: School of Business, School of Liberal Arts and Education, School of Science, Health and Technology and the School of Professional and Community Development. Baccalaureate programs are offered in accounting, biology, business, computer information systems, education, English, environmental science, liberal studies, mathematics, nursing, psychology, and public administration. Associate degrees and several outstanding Certificate programs are offered in most of these disciplines. Our programs’ strengths continue to attract large numbers of students.
