Dear Students,
I would like to provide you with an update on Medgar Evers College response to Hurricane Sandy and share some additional resources that have come to our attention since our last message. Many Medgar Evers College students continue to face challenges as a result of the hurricane and we have been working diligently to assist those in need. If you have not yet contacted us to request assistance, or if you are in need of additional support, please fill out this brief form so that we can begin to help where we can. The form will be available through December 15th for your use. In addition, there is a Medgar Evers College Disaster Relief Resource Guide, that will provide you with information and resources – How to obtain food and water; immediate housing and shelter; FEMA assistance and counseling services; and the like.
While many Medgar Evers College students are finding their way back to normal routines, we encourage you to be mindful of your peers and residents of surrounding communities who might still be facing challenges and offer to help where you can. The -College has been and will continue to coordinate opportunities to volunteer and we hope you will join us in serving those whose needs are great.
Now that the initial shock of this event has passed, you may begin to experience new emotions and responses that you had not expected. Please know that the Medgar Evers College Counseling Department continues to be an important resource for all students. We encourage you to contact them for assistance. They can be reached at any number below, or you can also email us at superstormsandyrelief@mec.cuny.edu.
